Venetian palace, Famagusta, North Cyprus. Cyprus came under the rule of the Republic of Venice in 1489. The Venetians moved the capital of the island from Nicosia to Famagusta and built a palace there. Cyprus was in Venetian hands until it was conquered by the Ottomans in 1571.
