White Bastion, old town walls, Famagusta, North Cyprus. The town walls of Famagusta were built by the Venetians, who ruled Cyprus from 1489 until 1571 and made Famagusta their capital. The city fell to the Ottoman Turks in 1571 after a 13 month siege during their conquest of the island.
