Charles Montagu, Earl of Halifax, English poet and statesman, 1703-1710 (1906). Montagu (1661-1715) was First Lord of the Treasury from 1697-1699 and Chancellor of the Exchequer fro, 1694-1699. He was dismissed from the Privy Council when Queen Anne came to the throne in 1702. From the original painting by Sir Godfrey Kneller.
