'Humpty Dumpty', 1878 (1895). First rough pencil sketch for Punch cartoon Disraeli and Cyprus supporting a Humpty Dumpty figure representing the Ottoman Empire sitting on top of a wall representing the Asian frontier. Under the terms of the Cyprus Convention, a secret agreement negotiated by Britain and the Ottoman Empire, the Ottomans agreed to cede control of Cyprus to Britain in return for British support at the Congress of Berlin. A print from The Magazine of Art, Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris and Melbourne, 1895.
