Soldiers of the 5th Army killed during the German offensive of 1918, Albert, France. The deployment of reinforcements from the Eastern Front enabled the Germans to launch a massive offensive in the West in the spring of 1918. The British 5th Army bore the brunt of the attack. Its failure to withstand the assault led to the dismissal of the army's commander, General Sir Hubert Gough. Stereoscopic card detail.
