Completed Tinsley Viaduct on the M1, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, 1968. The twin cooling towers of the Blackburn Meadows Power Station which many travellers heading north used as a landmark can be seen on the right. Still in operation at the time, they were demolished in 2008. The once great steelworks of Meadowhall can be seen on the left under the bridge. This image was used by the Yorkshire Bank to portray the prosperity of the area at the time and this monument to Sheffield's steel industry also marked its decline, as the steelworks headed for recession and eventual closure in the 1980s.
