Woolworth's store, Parkgate, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, 1957. The Woolworth's Store in Parkgate was located on a junction on the main road into Rotherham. Facing the store and behind the photographer stood the Park Gate Iron and Steel works which gave the area its prosperity. This once afluent area with its banks and modern shops is now home to a variety of kebab houses and small shops, with any famous high street names having migrated to the retail park a few hundred metres away. The Woolworths store survived until the 1980s when it was closed. The shop later became a cut price wallpaper store.
