Walsh's department store in Sheffield during its redevelopment, South Yorkshire, 1967. The front of the store was to be demolished and rebuilt to accommodate the new road junction which incorporated the 'hole in the road' pedestrian walkway. The pedestrian area can be seen in the centre bottom of the photograph and this linked the walkways from each side. Bodies were discovered whilst excavations were being made, these being from the unfortunate souls who took refuge in the basement of the adjacent Marple's pub which was bombed during the Second World War.
