Westland Whirlwind helicopter making a rescue, 1973. A Westland Whirlwind HAS 10 beloning to RAF Search & Rescue lowers a member of the rescue team to recover a pilot in his life raft. The HAS 10 was the last of a line of variants which were derived from the Sikorsky S 55 and the first prototype flew in 1959. The Whirlwind was replaced by the Sea King which was introduced in 1969.
