The painting, one of a series of four depicting the Oxfordshire parliamentary election of 1754, shows the victorious Tory candidate being carried in triumph by his supporters. In the foreground, two men, wielding a flail and a club, confront each other. A print from Things, a volume about the origin and early history of many things, common and less common, essential and inessential, by Readers Union, the Grosvenor Press, London, 1956.
