Francis I, King of France, c1520-1525 (1956). Francis (1494-1547) ruled France from 1515. He is regarded as France's first Renaissance monarch and his kingdom underwent great cultural advances during his reign. In foreign policy he was a contemporary and rival of Charles V of Spain and Henry VIII of England. From the Louvre, Paris.
