Charles de Foucauld, French Catholic priest and missionary, 1915. Charles de Foucauld (1858-1916) was a Catholic priest who lived among the Tuareg people in Algeria. He was murdered in 1916 outside the fort he had built to protect the local people. He was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005.
