The sack of Rome by the Vandals, 455 (1882-1884). The 5th century saw increasing numbers of invasions of Roman territiory by migratory peoples from eastern and central Europe. In 455 the Vandals under their king, Geiseric, sailed across the Mediterranean from their kingdom in North Africa and sacked Rome itself.
