Combat between Roman and Veneti vessels, Loire river, 56 BC (1882-1884). The Veneti were a Gallic tribe that inhabited Brittany. Like the rest of the Gauls, they were conquered by Julius Caesar in the Gallic Wars fought between 58 and 51 BC. In 56 BC, they fought the Romans in a naval battle, the Battle of Morbihan, but were defeated. From a bas-relief on the walls of Narbonne.
