Attack on the French invasion flotilla at Boulogne, France, 15-16 August 1801 (1882-1884). In the summer of 1801 Napoleon was massing troops on the northern French coast in order to attempt an invasion of England. Admiral Lord Nelson was put in command of the defence of the English Channel to prevent the invasion, launching this unsuccessful attack on the French at Boulogne. The signing of the Treaty of Amiens in October 1801 brought an end to the invasion threat for the time being.
