'No dance', Japan, 1904. The subject is Benkei and Yoshitsune. Saito Musashibo Benkei was a 12th century warrior monk who served Minamoto no Yoshitsune, a general of the Minamoto clan. Commonly depicted as a giant man of great strength and loyalty, Benkei is a popular subject of Japanese kabuki and noh drama.
