Stone torii, Suwa Temple, Nagasaki, Japan, 1904. A torii is a traditional entrance gate to a Shinto shrine. It marks the boundary between the sacred ground of the shrine and the profane outside world. The Suwa Shrine is the main Shinto shrine in Nagasaki and is the venue for the annual Nagasaki Kunchi festival.
