A suffragette confronting two policemen, 1913 (1937). The campaign to secure the vote for women in Britain reached its peak in 1912, early in George V's reign, with women adopting a range of protests, direct action and civil disobedience. Partial suffrage was achieved in 1918, with all women finally gaining the right to vote ten years later, in 1928. A print from The Story of Seventy Momentous Years, the Life and Times of King George V, 1865-1936, editor Harold Wheeler, Odhams Press Ltd, London, 1937.
