Five Rathas, Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu, India. Mahabalipuram (also known as Mamallapuram) is a city founded in the 7th century by the southern Indian Pallava dynasty. It is believed to have been named for the Pallava king Mamalla, who ruled from 630-668. The city contains numerous Hindu temples, rathas and other monuments and has been designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
