Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates, Kourion, Cyprus, 2001. One of the most important religious sites of ancient Cyprus, the worship of Apollo probably began here as early as the 8th century BC and continued until the 4th century AD. The ruins seen today are thought to date from the 1st century AD, when the temple complex underwent restoration.
