Mosaic, Paphos. Paphos has been inhabited since neolithic times. It was an important centre for the worship of the goddess Aphrodite, who was said to have been born nearby, and has ruins dating back to the 12th century BC. The ruins of two large Roman villas, the House of Dionysos and the House of Theseus, are famous for their mosaics.
