Pipe wrapping to prevent corrosion on steel pipes, Old Denaby, South Yorkshire, 1961. In the days before advances in manufacturing processes enabled plastic pipes to be produced, piping had to be made of steel. To prevent corrosion, the pipes were wrapped in non-corrosive material to protect them. Workers can be seen loading the wrapped pipes onto lorries for delivery to the customer at William Press & Son in the village of Old Denaby. The twin cooling towers of Mexborough Power Station can be seen in the background.
