The theatre at Pamukkale (Hierapolis), Turkey. This is one of the best preserved of the great theatres of Asia Minor.. It was built in the 2nd century during the reign of the Emperor Hadrian and the stage building was rebuilt in the 3rd century during the reign of Septimius Severus. The mineral springs and the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis make this an unusually attractive place. The Hittites and the Phyrigians, the early civilisations in Anatolia, built altars, temples or cities at almost every water source.
