Bust of Frederic Chopin, Valldemossa, Mallorca, Spain, 2008. Chopin and his lover, the French author George Sand, spent a winter in Majorca in 1838-1839 in a former monastery at Valldemossa, confiscated from the Church by the Spanish government. The time spent at Valldemossa was one of Chopin's most productive periods from a musical point of view, but bad weather caused his health to worsen, and he and Sand were forced to leave the island. There is a small museum devoted to Chopin in the village.
