Zeppelin LZ2 after its destruction, 1906 (1933). The second Zeppelin to be built, LZ2 made its only flight on 17th January 1906. The airship's engines failed and it was forced to land in the Allgau Mountains, where it was damaged beyond repair by a storm. Parts of the airship were salvaged and used in the construction of its successor, LZ3. A photograph from Zeppelin-Weltfahrten, Vom ersten Luftschiff 1899 bis zu den Fahrten des LZ127 Graf Zepplin 1932, Dresden, 1933.
