The bouleuterion at Olympia, Greece. A bouleuterion was a building which housed the council of citizens (boule) in Ancient Greece. This particular bouleuterion was made up of two buildings which dated from the mid-6th and the 5th centuries BC. Between the two buildings stood the altar of Zeus Horkios, where the athletes were sworn in before the games. Olympia, a sanctuary of ancient Greece, is probably best known for having been the site of the Olympic Games in classical times.
