Tiled alcove in the Plaza de Espana, Seville, Andalusia, Spain, 2007. The Plaza de Espana was built in 1929 for Seville's hosting of the Spanish-American Exhibition. It was designed by Anibal Gonzalez. The tiled alcoves depict important episodes in the history of each Spanish province, this example being the surrender of Gerona to the French in 1809 after resisting a siege lasting seven months.
