Chapel, Bom Jesus do Monte Church, Braga, Portugal, 2009. Situated on a hilltop 400 metres above sea level near the northern Portuguese city of Braga, the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is dedicated to the Good Jesus of the Mountain. The church was built between 1784 and 1834 at the top of a 116 metre long zigzag Baroque stairway designed in 1722 by the Archbishop of Braga. It is an important pilgrimage site. The grounds are filled with interesting gardens, grottoes, small chapels, sculptures, and allegorical fountains.
