The Duke of Buckingham finds the Severn impassable, 1483 (1864). Having previously supported his taking of the throne, Henry Stafford (1455-1483), 2nd Duke of Buckingham led a rebellion against the recently crowned Richard III (1452-1485) of England in 1483, with the intention of replacing Richard with Henry Tudor. Buckingham attempted to cross the Severn at Gloucester but ten days of storms and rain swelled the waters so it became impassable. He was captured and executed for treason at Salisbury on 2nd November 1483.
