EH Harriman, American railway executive, 1901. Edward Henry Harriman (1848-1909) became President of the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1901. By the time of his death he controlled the Union Pacific, Southern Pacific, Saint Joseph and Grand Island, Illinois Central, Central of Georgia railway companies, the Pacific Mail Steamship Company, and the Wells Fargo Express Company, with wealth estimated at between $200 million and $600 million.
