King George V awarding the Victoria Cross to Private Wilfred Edwards, 1917. George V (1865-1936) presenting Edwards with his medal at an open-air investiture at Buckingham Palace. Edwards (1893-1972) served in the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He won his VC for his actions at Langemarck, Belgium, during the Battle of Passchendaele. He was later promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant and re-enlisted in the KOYLI at the outbreak of the Second World War, reaching the rank of major.
