Famine in the Volga Valley, Russia, c1921-c1922. The aftermath of the Russian Revolution and Civil War. Groups of peasants starving. A combination of drought in 1921 and the disruption caused to Russia's agricultural system by the upheavals of the Revolutin and Civil War led to a catastrophic famine in 1921-1922. An estimated 5 million people lost their lives.
