'The Head', 1901. James John Hornby (1826-1909), headmaster of Eton College from 1868 to 1884. He was previously a rower, competing for Oxford University in the Boat Race and at the Henley Royal Regatta, and was noted as a skier and Alpine mountaineer. From Vanity Fair, 31 January 1901.
