'The Opening of the Walhalla', 19th century. A view of the River Danube near Regensburg, Bavaria, showing the Neoclassical Walhalla Temple on the riverbank. Conceived by Crown Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria as a hall of fame for illustrious Germans, it was designed by Leo von Klenze and built between 1830 and 1842. After an original painting of 1842 by JMW Turner.
