Yuri Gagarin and Valentina Tereshkova, Russian cosmonauts, 1963. Gagarin (1934-1968) became the first man in space when he orbited the Earth aboard Vostok 1 on 12 April 1961. Tereshkova (1937-) made the first space flight by a woman when she piloted Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. Found in the collection of the State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia, Moscow.
