Coming of age of the Marquess of Bute, Cardiff, Wales, 1868. The arrival of the Marquess at Cardiff, procession through the High Street. John Crichton-Stuart, 3rd Marquess of Bute (1847-1900) acceded to the Marquessate in 1848 when only six months old. His father, the 2nd Marquess, was an industrialist who developed the port of Cardiff to ship the mineral wealth of South Wales. A print from The Illustrated London News, 26 September 1869.
