Ruins of the ancient city of Pella, Jordan. During Roman times Pella was one of the cities of the Decapolis, a group of ten cities on the eastern edge of the Empire in Judea and Syria. It was the site of one of the earliest Christian churches. The city was destroyed by the Golan earthquake of 749.
