'Heart of Houston, Texas' largest city', USA, 1938. Vintage postcard showing a view of downtown Houston including the Niels Esperson Building, the Second National Bank and the Gulf Building. Completed in 1929, the Art Deco Gulf Building was the tallest building in Houston until 1963. It was designed by Alfred C Finn, Kenneth Franzheim and JER Carpenter. The skyscraper is now known as the JPMorgan Chase Building. The Niels Esperson Building was built in 1927. It was designed by John Eberson. The Second National Bank was previously known as the Carter Building. When built in 1910 it was Houston's tallest building.
