Vintage postcard showing the Carnegie Library and First Presbyterian Church on McKinney Avenue between Fannin and Main Streets. More than 2500 libraries were built worldwide with funding donated by the Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. The one in Houston was built in 1899 but no longer stands. The First Presbyterian Church, built in 1896, was destroyed by a fire in 1932. A new church was completed in 1948.
