Arc de Triomphe and Place de l'Etoile, Paris, France, early 20th century. Designed by Jean Chalgrin in Neoclassical style to recall the monumental architecture of Ancient Rome, the Arc de Triomphe was commissioned by Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz. It was finally completed in the 1830s.
