Tsarevich Alexei of Russia and Tsarina Alexandra, c1910. Alexei Nikolaevich Romanov (1904-1918) was the fifth child and only son of Tsar Nicholas II (1868-1918) and Tsarina Alexandra. The heir to the throne, he was a constant source of anxiety to his parents owing to his haemophilia. Alexei and his mother were executed along with the rest of the royal family by the Bolsheviks at Yekaterinburg in 1918. Found in the collection of the Russian State Film and Photo Archive, Krasnogorsk.
