USS 'Alabama', American battleship, 1898. An 'Illinois' class pre-dreadnought battleship, 'Alabama' was launched in 1898. She served with the US North Atlantic Fleet and in 1907 sailed with the 'Great White Fleet' of battleships sent on a circumnavigation of the world by President Theodore Roosevelt to show off America's growing sea power.
