American National Exhibition, Moscow, USSR, 1959. Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev (1894-1971) samples a cup of Pepsi-Cola watched by US Vice-President Ricard Nixon (1913-1994) and Pepsi Co Chairman Donald M Kendall (1921-). The exhibition, which followed a Soviet exhibition staged in New York earlier the same year, was ostensibly staged to improve relationships between the Cold War rivals, but its exhibits were intended to showcase the superior lifestyle enjoyed by capitalist America compared to Communist Russia.
