Nikolai Nikolaevich Miklukho-Maklai, Russian anthropologist, Queensland, Australia, c1880. An early supporter of the theories of Charles Darwin, Miklukho-Maklai (1846-1888) was the first Russian anthropologist to refute the view that different races of humans were separate species. He lived and worked in Australia from 1878 until 1887. Found in the collection of the Russian Museum of Ethnography.
