Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin, Russian author, 19th century. Saltykov-Shchedrin (1826-1889), better known as Shchedrin, was a prominent satirist. He acted as editor of the magazine Otechestvenniye Zapiski until it was banned by the Russian government in 1884. He was exiled to Kirov (then known as Vyatka) for 8 years after the publication of his A Complicated Affair in 1854. Found in the collection of the Institute of Russian Literature IRLI (Pushkin-House).
