Uprising on the battleship 'Potemkin', Constanta, Romania, 1905. The 'Potemkin' was a pre-dreadnought battleship of the Imperial Russian Navy's Black Sea Fleet. During the Russian Revolution of 1905 the ship's crew mutinied against their officers and sailed to the Romanian port of Constanta. The uprising was seen as having been an initial step on the road to the 1917 Revolution and was the subject of an iconic film by Soviet film director Sergei Eisenstein. From a private collection.
