'Apollo and Daphne', 18th century. In Greek mythology Daphne, daughter of river god Peneus, was dedicated to a life of virginity. When pursued by Apollo, she fled to greater gods for protection and was turned into a laurel tree. Found in the collection of the State Museum Arkhangelskoye Estate, Moscow.
