'The Siege of the Trinity Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad', 1891. The Trinity Lavra of St Sergius was founded in Sergiyev Posad (Zagorsk), Russia, in 1345 by St Sergius of Radonezh. The monastery is one of the most important spiritual centres of the Russian Orthodox Church. It withstood a Polish-Lithuanian siege for 16 months in 1608-1610 during the Polish-Muscovite War. Found in the collection of the State Russian Museum, St Petersburg.
