'The Battle of Borodino on August 26, 1812. Third French Attack', 1913. The Battle of Borodino, fought on 7 September [26 August Old Style] 1812, was the largest and bloodiest single day battle of the Napoleonic Wars. Although it was a tactical victory for Napoleon, the Russians were able to withdraw their army with sufficient strength to ultimately force the French to retreat from Russia. Found in the collection of the State Central Artillery Museum, St Petersburg.
