'The Decembrist Revolt at the Senate Square on December 14, 1825', late 19th century. The Decembrist Revolt of 1825 was an uprising by army officers in St Petersburg against the succession of Tsar Nicholas I following the death of Alexander I. The rebellion failed and five of its leaders were executed with others exiled to Siberia. Found in the collection of the State Museum of Religious History, St Petersburg.
